Initial Problem Discovery

Our client, a nutritionist who had identified the lack of a platform in the Mexican market that facilitated patient management, creation of personalized programs and recipes, as well as progress tracking approached our agency seeking assistance in turning her idea into a digital product.

The ideas the client presented to us were simple but insightful sketches. It was helpful that I am interested in the field of Nutrition, and the terms and concepts were not unfamiliar to me.

Therefore, the main challenge was to define the project’s clear, specific goals and scope.

I also identified that their visual identity needed to be developed in order to be consistently applied to the platform. As a result, I recommended refining the logo, defining a color palette, as well as its graphic elements.

Project Goal

Create and launch a comprehensive platform for nutritionists in the Mexican market. The platform aims to facilitate patient care by creating personalized programs and recipes, as well as tracking the patient’s progress over time. By providing a user-friendly interface and a range of innovative features, the goal is to create a clear, accurate, consistent, and flexible platform.

Platform design requirements

  • Desktop design platform
  • User registration and profiles
  • Recipe and program creation with filters to adapt to every client
  • Agenda and calendar for time management
  • Video and articles resources for  education
  • Informative website

Target Audience

This profile represents licensed nutritionists actively practicing in Mexico. They seek a platform that helps them streamline their workflow, manage patient information effectively, create personalized recipes and programs, and stay updated with the latest research and resources.

Nutritionist Students

This profile includes students pursuing nutrition or dietetics degrees in Mexico. They are eager to enhance their knowledge, gain practical experience, and connect with experienced professionals in the field. They would benefit from a platform that offers educational materials.

Medical Professionals

This profile represents doctors, nurses, and other healthcare practitioners who collaborate with nutritionists in Mexico. They rely on nutritionists for dietary advice and patient referrals.

Key Challenges or constraints

User Experience

Optimizing the website for mobile devices, considering the high mobile usage in Mexico, and ensuring a seamless and user-friendly experience across a variety of screen sizes and mobile operating systems.

Creating an intuitive and user-friendly interface, simplifying the checkout process, and optimizing the overall user experience to increase conversion rates and drive sales.

Brand Alignment

Ensuring that the new e-commerce website aligns with the global brand guidelines and maintains consistency in terms of visual identity, tone of voice, and overall brand messaging.

Adapting the website to the local market in Mexico, including language translation, currency conversion, and culturally relevant content to resonate with the target audience.

Research Study Details

Competitor Analysis
Even though there are no other recipe apps from competitor companies, there are still many recipe apps that are important to review. By analyzing their features, we can identify essential features and differentiators.

Stakeholder interview
By talking to stakeholders, we could get insights into the needs, preferences, and expectations of different groups of people who would be using the app. This information could then be used to improve the app’s design, features, and content.

Personas creation
I created these fictional representations based on the information I was given and by doing research.

Design

During this stage, I developed wireframes, mockups, and high-fidelity prototypes.

Testing

Based on the testing, several key areas for improvement were identified:

  1. A text field for annotations was added. This allows the users to add their own notes to the document, which can be helpful for tracking changes or providing additional information.
  2. More allergies and health conditions were added. This ensures that the recipes are more inclusive and accessible to a wider range of users.
  3. An edition mode was added when adding an ingredient to personalize this item. This allows users to easily customize the document.
  4. Adjustments were made to the PDF that is printed or sent to the patient. This ensures that the document is formatted correctly and is easy to read.

Insights gained from the project

  • Usability Challenges. Considering the main platform in which the software would be used let me adapt the features to the space.
  • Personalized nutritional programs and recipes. The platform could use personalized nutritional programs and recipes that are tailored to the needs of each patient. This means that the platform should use data about each patient’s dietary preferences, allergies, and health conditions to create programs and recipes that are likely to be effective for them.
  • Scalability. A platform as ambitious as this should be prepared to scale, so it was planned to be self-administrable
